To close out the day, we could not let a historic piece of news go by: the successful return of the Artemis II mission. After a nearly 10-day journey around the Moon, the four astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen have splashed down safe and sound in the Pacific Ocean, off the coast of San Diego. It is the first time in more than 50 years that humanity has traveled so far into space.
The Orion capsule completed a flawless flight, coming within just over 6,500 kilometers of the lunar surface and reaching a maximum distance from Earth of more than 400,000 kilometers. Seeing the crew reunited with their families at the Johnson Space Center in Houston was a truly moving moment, and it marks the beginning of a new era in crewed space exploration.
This resounding success paves the way for the Artemis III mission, which has the ambitious goal of putting human beings back on the surface of the Moon. It is incredible to think that we are witnessing the rebirth of deep space exploration live. The universe is waiting for us, and it seems we are finally ready to explore it in earnest.
