If you thought GoPro was only good for recording skydives or downhill bike rides, get ready to change your mind. They have just announced the new Mission 1 line, and no, it does not replace the Hero cameras, but rather opens up a completely new path towards professional action cinema. These new cameras feature a one-inch sensor, 73.6% larger than that of the Hero 13, which means brutal image quality even in low light.
But hold on, because here comes the best part: the Mission 1 Pro ILS version lets you change the lenses. Yes, you read that right. You will be able to use Micro Four Thirds lenses, giving you creative control that GoPro fans had been begging for for years. In addition, they record in 8K at 60 fps, have up to 14 stops of dynamic range and promise a battery that lasts up to 80% longer than the Hero 13. The audio has also improved with 32-bit floating recording from four microphones.
Although we will still have to wait until May 28 to buy them and prices have not yet been revealed, it is clear that GoPro is going all out for the professional market. A risky but much-needed bet for a company that was watching its market share shrink in the face of competition from DJI and Insta360.
