Meta and Oakley Team Up to Create the Coolest Glasses on the Planet
By Marta | June 22, 2025
Heads up, my dear geeks! Meta doesn’t stay still for a second and now it has teamed up with Oakley to create some smart glasses that promise to be a game-changer. And here comes the good part: they’re not just another pair of glasses to make you look cool, but they’re aimed at athletes and all of us who like showing off gadgets while we exercise.
Let’s see, get me this straight. Meta, which had already gotten us used to its smart Ray-Bans (which, by the way, have sold millions, so they must be doing something right), is now partnering with Oakley to create the **Oakley Meta HSTN**. And yes, it’s pronounced “HOW-stuhn”, and I can already see people asking how to say that in stores.
Seriously? Really seriously? Because these glasses promise things that sound like science fiction but are already here. Hold on, hold on, this is getting interesting: they have a battery that lasts up to 8 hours of normal use and 19 hours on standby. 19 hours! Raise your hand whoever hasn’t run out of battery on their phone before 19 hours. And if you’re in a hurry, in 20 minutes you can charge them to 50%. This is crazy, but in a good way.
But wait, there’s more. The camera records in Ultra HD (3K), so you can say goodbye to those pixelated recordings you make with your phone while running. And the best part: they have IPX4 water resistance, which means you can sweat buckets or get caught in a downpour and the glasses won’t care.
And I ask myself: do we really need Meta AI to tell us what the weather is like while we’re playing golf? Because yes, these glasses have Meta’s assistant built in. You can ask it “Hey Meta, how strong is the wind today?” and it answers you. Or tell it “Hey Meta, take a video” and it records automatically. Don’t tell me that isn’t awesome, although it gives me a bit of a chill to have Meta listening to everything I say while I exercise.
The pricing thing… well, here comes reality like a bucket of cold water. The limited edition costs $499 (and with the exchange rate and Spanish taxes, you know what that means), and the rest of the collection will start at $399. Basically, they’re not exactly for every budget. But hey, if you can afford it and you’re the kind who gets excited about every new gadget, it might be worth it.
What catches my attention most is that they’ve signed Kylian Mbappé and Patrick Mahomes for the campaign. Because of course, if you want to sell sports glasses, who are you going to put? The best athletes in the world. Pure and simple marketing, but effective.
This smells like the good kind of hustle. Meta is clearly betting big on wearables and wants us to get used to wearing its devices all day. First the Ray-Bans for everyday use, now the Oakleys for sports… what will the next step be? Meta glasses for sleeping that analyze your dreams?
And that’s today’s show, my dear geeks. These glasses will be available for pre-order on July 11, so you know: if you want to be the first to wear the technology of the future on your face while exercising, start getting your wallet ready. See you next time, I’m sure there’ll be more drama.
May technology be with you!
