The European Parliament is in the final phase of approving the first specific regulation for general artificial intelligence (AGI). The regulation, which complements the existing AI Act, establishes mandatory transparency, auditing and safety testing requirements for models with general capabilities.
The proposal has generated intense debate among the member states. While countries such as France and Germany advocate a more flexible approach that does not hold back innovation, others such as Spain and Italy are pushing to include civil liability clauses in the event of damage caused by AGI systems. A final vote is expected before the end of the year.
