Hello techies, how are you all doing? Today I bring you news that will interest many of you, especially if you’re the kind of person who makes videos for YouTube, edits photos for Instagram or manages your own podcast. Apple has just launched Apple Creator Studio, a new subscription service that updates its suite of creative tools to bring them to a very specific audience: the small content creator. Instead of paying 800 euros all at once for all the professional apps, you can now access everything for 12.99 euros a month. And yes, Apple is aiming directly at CapCut, Canva and Adobe.
The subscription costs 12.99 euros a month, 129 euros if you pay annually or 2.99 euros if you’re a student, and gives you access to Apple’s entire suite of creativity apps: Final Cut, Logic Pro, Pixelmator Pro, Motion, Compressor and MainStage. It also includes some generative artificial intelligence features and exclusive content in Freeform, Keynote, Pages and Numbers. If we did the math on the one-time purchase of all these Mac apps, we’d be talking about 794.94 euros. With the subscription at 12.99 euros a month, it would take us 61 monthly payments, that is, five years, to reach the total amount of the one-time purchase. For an established professional it might not be the best option, but for the small creator just starting out, 12.99 euros a month sounds much more affordable than almost 800 euros in one go.
Apple knows very well who this service is aimed at, and it’s certainly not Pixar or the big Hollywood studios. This service is for the small creator who manages on their own a TikTok account, a YouTube channel, an Instagram profile and a podcast. For that person who is currently paying for CapCut to edit videos, Photoshop to retouch photos, Premiere for more complex edits or Canva for quick designs. Apple wants to tempt them with a more affordable subscription that includes everything and, above all, with perfect integration between all the tools and devices. If you already have a Mac, an iPad and an iPhone, the experience can be really smooth.
According to Apple executives spoken to by Xataka, this service responds to the change in the nature of today’s creators. They no longer do just one thing; they need to manage multiple creative workflows simultaneously. A musician doesn’t just write songs, they also produce, design their artwork, edit promotional videos and create material for social media. A tiktoker doesn’t just record videos, they also need to edit audio, design thumbnails and manage cross-platform content. Today’s creators are multidisciplinary by necessity, and Apple wants to offer them all the tools in a single package.
The interesting thing is that Apple keeps the one-time purchase to preserve its relationship with the more specialized professional community. A video editor who only edits video won’t get value out of an app like Logic Pro or MainStage, just as a professional illustrator won’t make use of Final Cut Pro. For them, the one-time purchase remains more attractive. But for the budding tiktoker, instagrammer, youtuber or singer who does everything on their own, having access to all the tools without spending a fortune doesn’t sound bad at all. The service includes AI features like Montage Maker, which lets you put together a quick video with the best moments of the recorded footage, and Chord ID, which uses AI to extract the chords from any recording. Apple’s philosophy is to amplify, not replace, human skill, and these tools follow that line.
Best regards, Marta
