SpaceX has announced the acquisition of Cursor, the artificial intelligence-assisted programming platform, for 60 billion dollars. The deal closes just days after the space company’s massive stock market debut, and is a strategic move by Elon Musk to compete directly with OpenAI and Anthropic in the enterprise artificial intelligence market. The purchase, announced through a regulatory filing before the SEC, is expected to close during the third quarter of 2026.
Cursor is one of the most popular AI-assisted coding tools of the moment, with explosive growth in recent years driven by demand for more efficient development environments and the trend known as «vibe coding», in which programmers describe in natural language what they want to build and let the AI generate the code.
