Microsoft goes independent: its own AI models are here

Today I bring you news that has left me quite surprised. It seems that Microsoft has decided it is time to fly the OpenAI nest and has launched its own independent artificial intelligence models. They are called MAI-Transcribe-1, MAI-Voice-1 and MAI-Image-2, and they are already available on Azure AI Foundry as of this week.

The most interesting thing about all this is that it is not just a minor update. It is a full-blown statement of intent. After years of relying on OpenAI to lead the AI race, Microsoft is building its own cutting-edge models. MAI-Transcribe-1 can handle 25 languages and is 2.5 times faster than what was already on Azure; MAI-Voice-1 generates personalized audio, and MAI-Image-2 points directly at image and video generation for corporate environments.

At the market level, this makes a lot of sense. Microsoft is investing billions in AI infrastructure and needs to control its own destiny. We will see how this new independent phase evolves and whether they really manage to dethrone their former allies. Certainly, the competition in the world of artificial intelligence is getting more interesting than ever.
