Google has set a date for its big event of the year. Next August 12 it will present its new family of phones, the Pixel 11. It is not a rumour: the company itself has confirmed it. The event will be held in New York and, that same day, the phones will be able to be pre-ordered.
Why does this matter if you are not a tech expert? Very simple: Google’s phones set trends. What they launch today, other brands copy tomorrow. And this time they bring novelties that can be seen at a glance.
A coloured light that tells you about everything
The most striking novelty is called Pixel Glow. It is a strip of little LED lights on the back of the phone, right in the camera area. When you receive a message, a call or a notification, it lights up with different colours. Imagine the phone giving you a wink to tell you “hey, you have a message”, without needing to touch it.
It is not the first time something like this has been seen, but Google gives it its personal touch. Surely some will love it and others will find it a whim. But certainly, it does not go unnoticed.
A faster brain that uses less battery
Inside the phone there are also important changes. Google has designed its own “brain”, called Tensor G6. The most curious thing is how it is made: with a 2-nanometre technology.
A nanometre is a tiny measurement, a billionth of a metre. To give you an idea: it is as if in an apartment building you could make the rooms smaller and thus fit many more. The building does not grow, but much more fits inside. Well, the same with the phone: by making the internal parts smaller, the phone is faster and uses less battery.
In addition, Google has changed the part that connects the phone to the networks (the modem, to put it simply). Before it bought it from one company and now from another. The promised result: better coverage and less heat when you use the phone for a long time.
Screen and battery for the whole day
The screen also improves. It will be OLED type, a technology that gives very vivid colours and deep blacks, like those of a good TV. It will have 6.3 inches on the standard models and 6.8 on the biggest one.
The battery will be around 5,000 mAh. What does that mean? That it is a big battery, one of those that lasts a whole day of normal use without going through the charger. And when it is time to charge, it will go fast: it supports 30-watt fast charging and wireless charging.
A camera that remains the strong point
The camera has always been the hallmark of the Pixel, and this year it was not going to be any different. The standard model will carry an improved 50-megapixel main sensor. The Pro models keep the triple camera, with software improvements. The front camera, the selfie one, will be 13 megapixels across the whole range.
Artificial intelligence as standard
The Pixel 11 will arrive with Android 17, the new version of Google’s system, and will include artificial intelligence features called Gemini Intelligence.
Artificial intelligence is, in simple words, programs that learn on their own. In this case it will enable things like translating conversations in real time, automatically retouching photos or having an assistant that understands you better. All without needing to know anything about computing: the phone does it on its own.
Prices and when you can have it
There will be four models: the standard Pixel 11, the Pixel 11 Pro, the Pixel 11 Pro XL and the foldable Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Orders open on the 12th itself and the first phones are expected to arrive from August 20.
Prices range from 899 dollars for the basic model (about 830 euros) up to 1,899 for the foldable. That said, there is good news: they all start with 256 GB of storage, which is a lot. To give you an idea, hundreds of films or tens of thousands of photos fit without a problem.
Is it worth waiting? It depends on what you are looking for. If you want a phone with the latest, a top-class camera and a very clever assistant, the Pixel 11 is an option to consider. If you prefer to save, maybe you would do better to wait for the previous models to drop in price. In any case, August 12 is a date to mark on the calendar.
