Huawei is putting its most ambitious bet of the year in the laptop segment on the table today: the Chinese company has officially confirmed that the MateBook Fold PC 2026 will be unveiled this very August 5 at an event held in China, with which it wants to consolidate the foldable laptop category and, in passing, demonstrate that its proprietary hardware ecosystem keeps advancing despite the trade restrictions it has been dragging for years.
The confirmation came in late July through a large poster published on the firm’s Chinese social networks, which revealed both the device’s design and its launch date. With the MateBook Fold PC 2026, Huawei updates what was one of the most striking proposals of 2025: the MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, considered the first foldable laptop with an 18-inch screen on the market.
A laptop that folds like a book
The hallmark of the MateBook Fold PC 2026 is its flexible 18-inch screen, which when folded in half becomes a compact device of approximately 13 inches, very similar to the size of a book or a large notebook. That format makes it a curious hybrid: open, it offers the work surface of a conventional large laptop, and closed it takes up barely the space of a netbook from another era, with a weight of around 1.16 kilograms.
The panel is an OLED type with LTPO technology and a 4:3 aspect ratio when fully unfolded, a proportion that is especially comfortable for reading documents, reviewing code or working with spreadsheets. According to the specifications leaked and confirmed in recent weeks, peak brightness on HDR content reaches 1,600 nits, while sustained brightness sits at around 700 nits, figures that place it among the brightest-screened laptops of the moment.
Kirin X90 Plus: more power, same ecosystem
Inside, the MateBook Fold PC 2026 mounts the new Kirin X90 Plus processor, an improved version of the X90 chip that the company presented last year. This silicon, manufactured by SMIC and designed entirely by HiSilicon, has become the central piece of Huawei’s strategy to detach itself from Western processors, and in this new iteration it promises a performance increase of around 25% over the previous generation.
The device is offered with up to 32 GB of RAM and storage options of 1 or 2 TB, configurations that clearly place it in the high range. The operating system, as is usual on the brand’s recent devices, will be HarmonyOS in its PC version, so the laptop is fully integrated into the Huawei ecosystem: it shares files with the house’s phones, allows receiving calls and notifications, and syncs the clipboard with tablets and phones.
First time with a stylus on a foldable
One of the most notable novelties of the MateBook Fold PC 2026 is that it incorporates, for the first time in Huawei’s foldable laptop range, stylus support. The device is compatible with the brand’s pen, which opens the door to creative uses: taking handwritten notes on the unfolded screen, drawing or annotating PDF documents without the need for external accessories.
As for the design, Huawei has teased three classic-inspired finishes for this edition, among which a new gold color variant that was not available in the previous model stands out. The hinge, one of the most critical points in any foldable, has been redesigned to support more open-and-close cycles, a detail the brand highlights especially given the historical doubts about the durability of this type of mechanism.
An event with more surprises
Today’s unveiling event will not be limited to the laptop: rumors suggest that Huawei will take the opportunity to also show other products of its ecosystem, and the company itself has hinted at novelties in its premium electric vehicle line. Although the official price of the MateBook Fold PC 2026 will not be known until this afternoon’s announcement, expectations point to it following in the footsteps of the previous model, sitting at the very top of the brand’s catalog.
With this launch, Huawei reinforces a clear strategy: competing in the premium segments where product innovation can still make a difference. A foldable laptop with an 18-inch screen, its own chip and a stylus is, for now, a territory where it has barely any rivals, and the Chinese company wants to prove that the category has room to grow beyond the niche.
